Viper 640 Bow Numbers Now Required

Order information

September 24, 2020

The following information is important to all Viper 640 owners. Please take the time to review it in its entirety.

New Class Rule 11.5 in effect

When the Viper 640 Class Rules were updated effective January 1, 2020, a new rule, 11.5 (see below), was added requiring all Vipers to display 3-digit boat numbers on both sides of the bow. The Class Rules stipulates that 11.5 goes into effect October 1, 2020, but due to delays and distractions stemming from the pandemic, the Technical Committee is delaying mandatory implementation until January 1, 2021. That being said, you should order bow numbers for your Viper now!

The following ordering form is for Viper owners in the U.S, Canada, and Bermuda. Local arrangements are being made for Vipers in Australia, Europe, South Africa and elsewhere. U.S. orders will be shipped directly to your home, Canadian and Bermudian orders will be consolidated and shipped together.

The Class has engaged a company to produce these bow numbers at an affordable rate when we order them in bulk. The bulk order price of US$47.50 gets you two stickers with your boat's numbers on it, installation instructions, an application tool, shipping and handling. This price will be honored for all orders received by October 31. After that date, the price to order and receive a set of bow numbers for your boat will increase to US$57.50.

There are two variables to designate when ordering:

1.     Color - Ordering black or white bow numbers:
A     Black numbers for white, light grey, yellow, orange, red hulls
   B.     White numbers for black, dark grey, blue, green, purple hulls

2.     Optional state registration numbers – some U.S. states require Vipers to display 6-digit registration numbers on their bow. If this applies, these numbers will need to be displayed aft of the Class bow numbers. You can order fresh 3" state registration number stickers in a matching font when ordering bow numbers at an additional cost of $10. You will select the appropriate option (#3 or #4) when ordering.
Note: For Vipers owned by GYA clubs that have unique GYA sail numbers, the bow number will be the boat's original hull number.

Please click on the link below, order bow numbers for your boat today, and enjoy the savings of the bulk order.

I received my bow numbers this week (230) as well as Peter Ill (277).  I saw Peter today trying to make the template work that comes with the numbers.  After a bit, we have realized the template is not to scale and cannot be used.  This is not a big deal but just be aware that you will need to draw out a new template or figure out another way to correctly place your numbers.  The original template 75 mm line is at 26mm and the 150mm line is at 52mm so you cannot fold and use that template as per the instructions.  I hope this saves everyone a bit of time in the boat parking lot figuring this out.

I just spoke with the sticker suppliers...yes, the actual sizing of the "template" is off because it was reduced from the original size to fit on a letter size page. Revised "instructions" are being sent to me that I will forward to all who have already ordered their stickers. New sticker instructions will be corrected.

Here is the revised instructions sheet for the bow numbers. Also, this link is to a video showing how to apply this manner of sticker (two sided protective papers). https://michigan-mc-numbers.com/michigan-mc-numbers-installation/
